Arriving
at Wildwood,
named ‘Kent’s best British Wildlife Park’ - you notice how it is hidden away, everything is very natural materials. We received a
map and because of the summer holidays the kids receiving an
activity trail sheet to tick off some of the animals as we went
through the park. Off we went, the difference with this park compared
to other Kent animal parks is this is solely in woodland - and on a
hot day it makes perfect shelter.
The
park has signposts at every turning, making it easy to find the
animals you want - or you can just do a long route round the outside
and you will come across all the animals. The park has over
200 native animals set in 40 acres of beautiful ancient woodland,
see Wolves, Bison,
Deer, Owls, Foxes, Red Squirrels, Wild Boar, Lynx, Wild Horses,
Badgers, Beavers and more.
What is amazing and different to many wildlife parks is the two big beautiful brown bears, rescued back in 2014 from a horrible life. Plus you can go have a VIP Bear Experience which includes a talk, feedings and other little treats.
At
the end there is a quite big adventure playground suitable parts for
under 5's which is separated off, then equipment suitable all the way
up to the teens and is the home of Kent's tallest drop slide open weekends and school holidays,
which scared me just looking at it. There is also the cafe and
ice-cream stall in this area and plenty of benches for a picnic.
